Youth Radio's mission is to promote young people's intellectual, creative
and professional growth through training and access to media and to produce
the highest quality original media for local and national outlets
Through hands-on practice, working relationships with industry
professionals, and production of award-winning programming, Youth Radio
students learn the basics of broadcasting. In the process, they're exposed
to a broad spectrum of media-related careers.
Youth Radio students also strengthen their foundation in basic
"life-skills": verbal expression, writing, computer technology, critical
thinking, conflict resolution, and more.
General Description:
In conjunction with the Technical Director, this position leads Youth Radio's
engineering department (Audio/Video/IT) and also serves as a liaison between
the training and production departments.
Responsibilities:
.. Coordinate technical services for production and training departments
.. Develop a professional radio station structure and atmosphere for YR's
webcast streams
.. Develop pathways to lead students and trainees to production engineer
positions at YR
.. Continue development of technical training program
.. Continue improving and setting production standards
.. Reinstitute YR's ability to do "remote" sound projects (DJ and PA for
community events, dances, etc)
.. Responsible for scheduling studio and rental bookings as well as studio
and equipment maintenance
.. Supervises production engineers, IT staff and assistants
.. Sets and maintains production standards for YR programming
.. Develops and maintains production training materials and courses
.. Oversees all technical training (ranging from but not limited to: IT
basics, Audio and Video basics, studio operations and etiquette, field
production, radio operations, website, archiving)
.. Pushes for deeper development and implementation of entry level training
.. Expands and solidifies existing advanced technical training
.. Coordinate efforts between technical, production, and training departments
to improve workflows and student training paths
Work Experience Requirements:
.. Familiar with general studio operations
.. Familiar with radio station operations
.. Very savvy technically
.. Passionate about "converged media"
.. Able to learn and integrate new technologies
.. Able to work with both beginning and seasoned users
.. Good Teacher/Mentor skills
.. Experience working with youth aged 14-18 preferred
.. Must have excellent supervision and communication skills
.. Must have a basic understanding of the converged media landscape
Education Requirements:
BA preferred but not required
Position/Salary:
1.0 FTE (40hrs/week), salary commensurate with experience and skills.
